Our story

From a seed
to a shared vision.

BLOOM began with a question that kept returning: what do people actually need in order to feel ready for the future, rather than carried along by it?

Why BLOOM exists

BLOOM was founded in Ruse, Bulgaria by three people with different professional paths and one shared observation. The challenges ahead of us, from climate change to rapid technological and social transformation, are not solved by information alone. They are met by people who have had the chance to learn practically, to work with others and to try things out.

We founded an organisation rather than a project because the work we care about is slow work. Skills, trust and community capacity take time to build, and they are built through repetition, not through single events.

A future that asks more of us

The way people live, work and participate is changing faster than most systems can adapt. Green transition, digitalisation, migration and shifting labour markets all place new demands on individuals and on the communities around them.

Preparation is not prediction. Nobody can say exactly what the coming decades will require. What can be developed is adaptability: the ability to learn quickly, to cooperate, to think critically and to keep participating when circumstances change.

Education as the ground

We work mainly with non-formal education, because it starts from the learner rather than from a curriculum. It allows people to practise, to fail safely, to reflect and to transfer what they learned into their own lives.

Good learning is practical, human and transformative. If a workshop does not change what someone does afterwards, it was information, not education.

Sustainability as everyday practice

Sustainability is not only a theme we deliver. It is a way of designing what we do: responsible choices, reuse of what already exists, attention to local resources and honest conversations about climate adaptation in the places where people actually live.

Participation as the method

Young people are not an audience for change. They are among the people who create it. This is why our activities are built with participants rather than for them, and why volunteering and community initiatives sit at the centre of our work.

Why international cooperation matters

A community in Ruse and a community elsewhere in Europe often face similar questions with different answers. International cooperation lets those answers travel. It also gives young people something that is difficult to teach in a classroom: the experience of being understood across a language, a border and a habit.

Mission, vision and values

Mission

To create learning opportunities that help people and communities become more adaptable, sustainable, active and prepared for future challenges.

Vision

A future in which people have the skills, confidence and opportunities to participate in change rather than simply respond to it.

Values

The six commitments that shape every decision we take.

01Learning

We believe education should be practical, human and transformative.

02Sustainability

We encourage responsible choices and communities that can adapt to a changing world.

03Inclusion

Everyone deserves the space to learn, contribute and belong.

04Participation

Young people are not observers of change. They are part of creating it.

05Resilience

We help people and communities develop the confidence and capacity to navigate change.

06Cooperation

We believe meaningful change grows faster when knowledge, people and cultures connect.
